Getting Started

Before Your First Session

Do I need to be in crisis to start therapy?

Not at all. Most of our clients come in with a pattern they can't break on their own, or a distance that keeps quietly growing. The earlier you start, the more we have to work with. You don't need to be at a breaking point to benefit from this.

How do I know if Mosaic Counseling Group is the right fit for me?

We specialize in two areas: couples therapy and individuals navigating chronic illness. If either of those describes your situation, we're likely a strong match. The free 15-minute consultation is specifically designed to help both of us figure that out, with no pressure and no commitment.

What happens during the free consultation?

It's a brief, informal call, about 15 minutes. We'll hear a little about what's going on for you, share how we work, and answer any questions you have. If it feels like a good fit, we'll talk about next steps. If not, we'll do our best to point you in the right direction.

How do I choose which therapist to work with?

You're welcome to read through each therapist's profile and get a feel for their style. If you're unsure, just tell us a little about your situation during your consultation and we'll help match you with the best fit on our team.

Fees & Insurance

What This Costs

How much do sessions cost?

We offer a sliding scale from $145 to $185 per session. No explanation needed, we trust you to choose the fee that fits your situation. $165 falls right in the middle.

Do you accept insurance?

We are currently out of network with all insurance providers. That said, we use Thrizer to look up your out-of-network benefits on your behalf, so you're not left guessing. Just let us know and we'll check what your plan covers before you get started.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Cash, Check, and Health Savings Accounts (HSA).

Do you offer sliding scale pricing?

We have a limited number of reduced-fee spots available for those experiencing financial hardship. Availability varies by therapist. Reach out directly to ask about current openings.

What is the No Surprises Act?

Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of what your services may cost before you begin. We're happy to provide this upon request.

Couples Therapy

Working Together as a Couple

Is couples therapy still worth it if we're not in crisis?

Yes. The couples who get the most out of therapy aren't always in crisis. They're often stuck in a pattern that keeps repeating, or they feel a quiet distance that's been growing. Coming in before things get worse means there's more to work with.

What if one of us is more hesitant than the other?

That's more common than you'd think. Usually the hesitant partner is expecting to be put on the spot or blamed. That's not how we work. Our job is to understand what's happening for both of you, not to assign fault. Most hesitant partners settle in quickly once they see that.

How long does couples therapy take?

It depends on what you're working through. Some couples come in for a focused 10 to 15 sessions to address a specific issue. Others do longer-term work. After we've had a chance to understand your situation, we'll give you an honest read on what to expect.

Do you work with couples considering separation or divorce?

Yes. Whether you're trying to reconnect, figuring out if the relationship is worth saving, or navigating a separation as thoughtfully as possible, we can help with all of those. There's no agenda from our side about the outcome.

Chronic Illness

Support for Chronic Illness

Do you specialize in chronic illness?

Yes, this is one of our core areas of focus. Our founder Lisa Gray has written a book specifically on relationships and chronic illness, and our team has years of experience supporting people navigating diagnoses, identity shifts, grief, and the relational impact of long-term health conditions.

Do you work with the partners of chronically ill people too?

Absolutely. Being the partner of someone with a chronic illness comes with its own unique challenges: caregiver fatigue, grief, communication strain, and more. We work with both the person with the diagnosis and their partners, individually or together.

Can therapy actually help with chronic illness?

It won't change the diagnosis, but it can change your relationship to it. Clients work with us to process grief, rebuild identity, navigate the medical system, reduce health anxiety, reclaim joy, and reconnect with what matters to them. These are real, meaningful shifts.

Logistics

The Practical Details

Where are sessions held?

All sessions are virtual. You can attend from anywhere in California, your home, your car, wherever you feel comfortable and have privacy. Virtual sessions often feel like an easier starting point for couples and individuals who are already feeling vulnerable.

What technology do I need for virtual sessions?

A device with a camera and microphone (phone, tablet, or computer), a stable internet connection, and a private space. We use a HIPAA-compliant video platform. Your therapist will send you a secure link before your first session.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require 48 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations may be charged the full session fee. For clients managing chronic illness, we understand that flare-ups and health changes don't follow a schedule. A unique cancellation policy can be negotiated directly with your therapist based on your needs.

Are you licensed in California?

Yes. Lisa Gray is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in California. All associate therapists hold California licensure and practice under direct clinical supervision by Lisa.
